One word; Mittens
WASHINGTON- The 2021 presidential inauguration was known for many things, such as the first Women VP to be swarm in, the fashion, and of course, Sen. Bernie Sanders mittens.
The weather for Wednesday’s forecast for Washington D.C. had temperatures in the 40s during the ceremony, but the breezy winds had it feeling much colder. Layers and face masks were the theme of this year’s inauguration.
Vice President Kamala Harris wore a purple dress and overcoat, which Black designer Christopher John Rogers created and was accessorized by a custom pearl necklace by Puerto Rican designer Wilfredo Rosado.
The exciting thing about this outfit is the hit sitcom The Simpsons from Fox has been called out for predicting future events for about three decades now. Such as the presidency of Donald J. Trump. Lisa Simpson is seen wearing an outfit very similar to Vice President Kamala Harris in a past episode from 2000.
President Biden wore a navy-blue suit from Ralph Lauren, a well known, all-American design label, which seems to be a favorite of Biden’s. He has been seen wearing Ralph Lauren polos while going to acquire his Covid-19 vaccine. Biden also sported a matching navy-blue mask.
First Lady, also like the Vice President wore a matching dress and overcoat from designer Markarian. According to the designer press release, blue was Jill Biden’s chosen color “to signify trust, confidence, and stability.” Her mask and gloves were also corresponding.
Of course, the scene-stealer was former presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders. He did not dress for fashion; he dressed for the function. His beige parka, brown wool mittens, and medical mask indeed was the real style icon.
“The inauguration fashion was very professional and patriotic, but the true star was Bernie sanders mittens,” Said Leah Vricos, a USF student.
His mittens were made by Jen Ellis, a Vermont elementary school teacher. Ellis has side employment of making mittens out of recycled wool. The memes of Sen. Bernie Sanders took the internet by storm.
Safe to say, the presidential inauguration of 2021 will be a memorable one.
